The porcelain manufactory Bing & Grondahl was founded in 1853 by Frederik Vilhelm Grøndahl and the Bing brothers in Vesterbrogade, just outside Copenhagen.
In 1895, Bing & Grondahl created the first Christmas plate in the world. Since then, every year for Christmas a wall plate with a winter motif, the respective year and the text "Jule Aften" ("Christmas Eve") is released.
