Porcelain | Royal Copenhagen | Tranquebar

The Danish faience factory Aluminia was founded in 1863 and taken over by Royal Copenhagen in 1969. Thereafter, the production was continued under the name Royal Copenhagen in smaller quantities. In 1912, Christian Joachim drew the faience decor "Tranquebar", which was produced until 1995. The pattern is inspired by the ancient East Indian porcelain imported to Denmark from the Far East via the former colony of Tranquebar (Tharangambadi). The main motif is a tulip, framed by borders with a willow pattern on a blue-green ground, the characteristic tone of old East Indian goods.
